A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck the northern border region between Iran and Iraq, killing at least 145 people and injuring hundreds more. At least 141 people were killed in Iran, Behnam Saeedi, a spokesman for Iran’s National Disaster Management Organization, said on the state television. More than 850 were injured, he said. The quake was felt as far west as the Mediterranean coast.
